A planta piloto do CITI abre unha liña de traballo en novos materiais derivados da biomasa

Situado no Parque Tecnolóxico de Galicia, o Centro de Investigación, Transferencia e Innovación CITI inaugurouse fai agora tres anos coa misión de potenciar o desenvolvemento da I+D+i a través da transferencia Universidade-empresa. Desde a súa apertura, unha das prioridades do centro foi a posta en marcha dunha planta piloto co equipamento necesario para realizar investigación punteira en diferentes eidos. Este ano, a planta vén de completar a súa dotación con equipos que permiten investigar en novos materias derivados da biomasa. Os primeiros en empregalos son os membros do grupo EQ2 da Universidade de Vigo.

“O CITI fomenta a I+D+i a través da creación de espazos de colaboración para favorecer e transferir coñecemento dende a Universidade ao tecido empresarial”, explica Xosé Antón Vila, director do centro. Esta idea materialízase no desenvolvemento de proxectos conxuntos no ámbito da agroalimentación, a biotecnoloxía, a enerxía, o medio ambiente e tecnoloxías da información e no feito de que as instalacións do CITI acollen once grupos de investigación da Universidade de Vigo, unha oficina de proxectos e unha planta piloto cun laboratorio complementario.

Catro especializacións

A planta piloto conta co equipamento necesario para desenvolver traballos en, principalmente, catro liñas de investigación, como son a transformación química e biotecnolóxica; a separación, extracción e purificación de compostos; a hixenización e conservación de alimentos e o creación de novos produtos procesados, e a liña de desenvolvemento de novos materias compostos biodegradables derivados de biomasa, que foi a última en instalarse.

Nos primeiros meses de 2012, apunta Vila Sobrino, rematouse a execución do proxecto Laboratorio de Materiais Avanzados Sostible LABMAT, “que tivo por obxecto paliar as carencias do CITI en equipamento destinado á produción e á avaliación de novos materiais avanzados de carácter biodegradable”. Deste xeito, explica o director do CITI, “o centro está xa capacitado para actuar de modo autónomo, de maneira que poida constituírse como un centro de referencia para a investigación, o desenvolvemento, a transferencia e a innovación neste puxante campo”.

Actuais e futuros usuarios

Coa apertura desta nova liña, o CITI ofrece a investigadores e empresas o uso de máquinas tales como unha extrusora bihusillo, unha inxectora e unha máquina universal de ensaios mecánicos, coas que se pode levar a cabo tanto a elaboración dos materiais compostos como a determinación das súas características mecánicas. Os primeiros en empregar este equipamento son o grupo de investigación EQ2, pertencente á area de Enxeñaría Química da Universidade de Vigo, que leva máis de 20 anos traballando na utilización de materiais lignocelulósicos. Actualmente investigadores deste grupo están a traballar co novo equipamento para, por exemplo, a obtención de materias compostos biodegradables obtidos a partir de biocomposites e de novos produtos de natureza polimérica a partir dos materiais lignocelulósicos.

Rematada a dotación da planta piloto, o centro traballa agora co obxectivo de dar a coñecer as posibilidades que ofrece o seu equipamento tanto aos investigadores como ás empresas da contorna, participando recentemente en actos como a Feira do Coñecemento, organizada pola Cámara de Comercio de Ourense, e na actividade 5 Sentidos para Innovar da Tecnopole.
